Vessel Walkthrough

This Duffy 42 was built start to finish at the Atlantic Boat Company Yard in Brooklin, Maine.  The layout is in a 2 stateroom, (the master with an island queen berth) galley up configuration with a single head with stall shower with 6′-5″ headroom in the Salon and 6′-2″ to 6–3″ below decks

Her finish is done in a traditional “Herreshoff Style” with varnished mahogany trim on white flat panels while the cabin soles are a solid varnished teak parquet throughout. Headroom in the Salon is 6′-5″ and a bit over 6′-2″ below. There is an abundance of natural light and ventilation with 6 opening stainless steel ports and 3 hatches below while the wheelhouse/salon has 8 windows and 2 doors. When natural ventilation is not sufficient there is a total of 40,000 BTUs of reverse cycle (heats & cools) air conditioning capacity. Artificial lighting is equally well thought out with extensive overhead dome style lamps and then swivel style reading lamps at the berths as well as decorative lamps.

Starting forward is the Master Stateroom with a 6′-3″ by 4′-4″ island queen berth with custom inner spring mattress. Below the berth there is storage in a set of cargo drawers and there are his and hers hanging lockers and bureaus outboard and aft. The forward section of the berth offers a large storage area.  Other features include access to the anchor locker forward and bookshelves outboard.

Aft and to starboard is the Guest Stateroom featuring a 6′-6″ by 4′-8″ double berth below which there is storage in two cargo drawers and well as some drop in or bin type storage. Aft there is a hanging locker and 3 large drawers and there is storage outboard on a shelf with fiddle while a book case is forward.

Across the fore and aft companionway is the enclosed Head featuring a separate stall shower compartment, Vacuflush fresh water W.C. and large vanity with storage and stainless steel sink.

Up three steps (storage under) to the Wheelhouse, Galley, and Salon. All Hunter Douglass blinds provide shade and privacy throughout the wheelhouse. The lower Helm Station is to starboard with full vessel controls, the yacht’s electrical distribution panels and side door providing abundant air flow and giving convenient access for the captain to move onto the foredeck. Seating at the helm is addressed with matching custom Arigoni Designs Captains Chairs.

Aft of the helm is the Salon area with comfortable U-shaped dinette (all new Sunbrella upholstery) which makes down to a large double berth almost 7′-6″ in length and 4′-7″ in width when desired. Dining is off a folding leaf varnished mahogany table which will easily seat 6 and drops down to make the berth up.

The straight Galley is to port with Formica counter tops, single basin stainless steel sink, 4 burner Thermador electric cooktop with new microwave, new toaster, new coffee maker and new ice maker.  You will find a spacious Norcold dual voltage full sized upright refrigerator/freezer aft. Hull and Deck

Fiberglass hull and hull & deck with end grain balsa coring from the engine stringers up and with end grain balsa coring in the house and decks. The entire topside, house, decks, mast were Awlgripped in 2014! The topside are Corinthia Blue with Snow White/Blue/Snow White Bootstripe, Moon Dust non-skid areas on deck, and Snow White waterways and house. As part of this the hull was re-faired and long boarded prior to repainting and is perfectly fair!!

Another example of the over the top care program for this yacht is the lazarette ventilation system. Typically lazarettes can be pretty damp due to wet dock lines and fenders and other paraphernalia being stowed there. To make certain this area stays bone dry the owner has installed vents from the engine compartment with a fan to pull hot dry air for the engine compartment while underway into the lazarette space and then pump it back to the engine room. Consequently the lazarette is bone dry!

Full beam cockpit app 8′-9″ in length from door to the transom fashion piece. Transom seat is heavily insulated as an ice box for fish storage. Forward and to starboard are two lockers, one with drawers originally a tackle storage but odds and ends for this owner. Raised panel doors to a tall locker for rod storage and another locker forward and under the ladder to port. All doors are made of Corian!!

Wide side decks with conveniently placed hand holds lead forward with a stainless steel bow rail starting at the aft end of the trunk cabin. An appropriately sloped stainless ladder leads to the flying bridge which has extensive seating forward that will easily accommodate 8-10 with storage under the bench seats. Dinghy storage is to starboard; the dinghy is easily handled on the electric hoist fitted to the mast and boom.
